CIPD Showcase Success! - Are you really checking new employees properly?

Agenda attended the CIPD Recruitment Conference at Olympia in London on the 16th and 17th June 2010.  The meeting was a great success and the Showcase Presentation entitled “Are you really checking new employees properly?” was extremely well attended with all seats in the auditorium taken and delegates standing around the available areas.  The presentation focused on the latest issues affecting organisations when making important hiring decisions and how robust pre-employment screening processes can protect organisations, reduce costs and avoid costly mistakes.  The presentation highlighted recent issues in relation to references, right to work checks, CRB checks and qualification checks amongst many others including what might happen to the SIA Vetting and Barring scheme.  The guidelines can also be confusing and the presentation discussed how organisations can take a sensible risk assessment approach to developing a screening process, one size does not fit all!
