Unlicensed security guards found working across the
English Riviera’s holiday parks

Investigators from the Security Industry Authority and the Department for Work & Pensions conducted an intelligence-led operation to target criminality and fraud within the tourist industry in Devon last Friday [21 August].

18 door supervisors and security guards working at holiday parks across Dawlish and Torbay were inspected with 12 individuals found working illegally without SIA licences – an offence under the Private Security Industry Act 2001.

They now could face possible prosecution that could lead to a prison sentence or a fine of up to £5,000.

Rachael White, an SIA Head of Investigation said:

“This was a targeted operation, so while I am not surprised at the results, it is still disappointing and worrying that public safety is of no concern to those deploying unlicensed operatives. We will be taking strong action against these individuals and companies who flout the law.”

"This successful joint operation conducted at night with staff from the Security Industry Authority reinforces the Government's campaign of closing in on benefit thieves.  We are now following several lines of enquiry as our investigations continue".
