Criminal Record Checks Options
Type of Check |
Description |
Cost (including fee) |
| Basic Disclosure |
Basic criminal checks are available for all types of employment and voluntary positions (except for those covered by the Standard and Enhanced CRB). The Basic criminal check provides details of all unspent convictions, is not job-specific and is available for all UK residents. |
£49.00 |
| Standard CRB Disclosure |
Standard CRB checks are for people entering certain professions, such as members of the legal and accountancy professions. Standard checks contain the following:
Convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held in England and Wales on the Police National Computer, the most relevant convictions in Scotland and Northern Ireland may also be included.
For information on which check applies see:

£53.30 |
| Enhanced CRB Disclosure |
Enhanced CRB checks are for posts that involve work in a ”Regulated Activity” and for a regulated activity provider with children or vulnerable adults. In general this type of work will involve regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of such people. Examples include a Teacher, Scout or Guide leader. Enhanced checks are also issued for certain statutory purposes such as gaming and lottery licences.
Enhanced checks contain the same information as Standard checks but with the addition of any locally held police force information considered relevant to the job role. |
£71.60 |
| Volunteer Disclosure |
Standard and Enhanced criminal checks for volunteers are “free of charge" and so only the administration fee is applied. |
£27.60 |
| Adult First check |
The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) Adult First check searches the Department of Health’s list of people who it bars from working with vulnerable adults. Those employing people to posts that involve working with vulnerable adults may be able to request a check of the Vulnerable Adults' Barred list. ISA Adult First checks are available in only very exceptional circumstances. For England these are described in Department of Health guidance as, where a care worker may be allowed to start work in a care home, for a domiciliary care agency, or as an adult placement carer before a CRB check has been issued.
ISA Adult First checks can only be applied for if you submit a CRB Disclosure Scotland application. |
£8.40 |
All of the above costs include identification and address validation, administration and any standard postage charges and all agency fees including VAT, however additional costs may be incurred for the return of original documents by special delivery if required.
